Key Features and Benefits

1. Protection & Exclusion:
Fundamental difference: The core function of Flared Cap is physical protection and dust/fouling prevention, while the core function of Flared Plug is the sealing end of the port that bears system pressure. This is the most essential difference between the two:
Flared Plug: Screwed into the internal thread port, its outer cone and the inner cone of the port form a pressure-bearing seal, and the blind end bears the system pressure.
Flared Cap: Screwed on the external thread connector body/port, its inner cone and the outer cone of the connector body form a non-pressure-bearing dust-proof seal, and the blind end only provides physical coverage and does not bear the internal pressure of the system.
Protected objects: Specially protect the precise 45° external cone sealing surface and external threads to prevent them from being bruised, scratched, deformed, contaminated with dust, oil, water vapor or corrosive substances. These damages will seriously affect the sealing performance of the connector when it is officially used.
2. Non-Pressure Dust Seal Design:
Different sealing purposes: The seal formed by the inner cone of the Flared Cap in contact with the outer cone of the connector is not intended to prevent high-pressure fluids, but to prevent external environmental pollutants from entering. It only requires a slight, anti-loosening tightening force (usually hand-tight plus 1/4-1/2 turn) to achieve an effective dust seal.
Structural design: The focus of its internal design is to accurately replicate the SAE 45° inner cone shape to ensure a good fit with the outer cone of the connector to form an effective dust barrier. Its wall thickness and strength design are mainly designed for protection and ease of operation, rather than withstanding high pressure.
Protection for Male Ports:
Application Differences: Flared Cap is designed to protect components with external threads and 45° external cones, such as:
Separate SAE 45° external threaded connectors (Male Adapter)
External threaded ports on valve blocks, pumps, valves and other equipment
External threaded ends of pipe fittings (such as elbows and tees)
Comparison with Plug: Flared Plug is used to close ports with internal threads and 45° internal cones.
Ease of Use & Identification:
Quick installation and removal: Usually only manual tightening is required to achieve the protection purpose, and removal is also easy. Its hexagonal head design is mainly convenient for removal when it is over-tightened, or for smaller-sized pipe caps.
System status identification: In a device or system, screwing on the Flared Cap can clearly indicate that the port has not been connected to a pipeline and is in a standby or protected state to prevent misoperation.
