Bulkhead Union

Bulkhead Union is an important component of brass compression fittings. Its core function is to achieve the connection between the two sides of the pipe when it passes through the partition (such as wall, equipment housing, panel), and meet three key requirements at the same time:
1. Sealing performance after the pipe penetrates (to prevent fluid leakage)
2. Fixing the stability of the pipe and the partition (to prevent the joint from loosening due to vibration or pressure)
3. Removable connection of the pipes on both sides of the partition (to facilitate later maintenance or pipe replacement)

The working principle of Bulkhead Union is a combination of "compression seal + mechanical fixation":
Fixed to the bulkhead: After the flange in the middle of the main body passes through the opening of the bulkhead, the flange is pressed against both sides (or one side, depending on the design) of the bulkhead by bolts, so that the joint is fixed to the bulkhead as a whole to prevent the joint from being displaced due to pipeline vibration or fluid pressure.
Pipeline sealing connection: The pipes on both sides of the bulkhead are respectively inserted into the connecting sections at both ends of the main body, and after the ferrule and compression nut are put on, the nut is tightened - at this time, the ferrule is squeezed by the nut and the main body connecting section, radially shrinks and hugs the outer wall of the pipe, and axially deforms to fill the gap between the inner wall of the main body and the pipe, and finally forms a leak-free metal-metal seal (no glue or sealing ring is required, relying on the mechanical seal of the ferrule deformation).
